Hanhwa Aqua Planet Yeosu

Hanhwa Aqua Planet is one of the main attractions in Yeosu. It was part of the Yeosu EXPO 2012's attractive structures, which until now continues to attract visitors, including the curious children.

I have visited the place. But unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to see the magnificent water creatures and shows due to time constraints! I'll make sure I can do it next time (soon)!

Hanhwa Aqua Planet is thought to be the second-largest aquarium in South Korea. I know that it is a landmark as it looks very imposing, although it is inside the Expo site area.

The source says that it records 1 million people visit or come here each year!

Honestly, I cannot talk much about these creatures as I haven't seen them in this place. But you know exactly how they look like and how interesting they are (as you might have visited some places already).

Aqua Planet Structural Features

Looking from outside and from the road, I noticed that the design is quite unique. It seems like a modern ark or ship. Later did I realize that the back section and the main entrance is more beautifully designed.

The Building Area is over 6 thousand square meters, with a scale of 6 thousand tones.

The Total Floor Area is over 16 thousand square meters.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors have over 4 thousand square meters, respectively, while the 4th floor has only more than 2 thousand square meters.

Well, it sounds pretty spacious to me for such animals to swim in (although not comparable to their original home--the sea!).

Accommodating Visitors

The whole place can entertain around 1,400 guests at a time on all floors.

Visitors can enjoy various performances according to the schedules set, such as the Aqua Fantasy shows.

Marine Life Feeding Presentations

I will surely enjoy watching animals eating their respective and favorite food. As an adult, I confess I still do enjoy it. No, it is not only for kids!

Anyway, if you have kids with you, they will undoubtedly have the best times in their lives if they witness animals being fed here.

Adults and children alike will enjoy the following...

• feeding the African Penguins
• feeding fishes in the aquarium
• feeding the seal and sea lines
• feeding the intelligent Beluga (white whale)
• feeding the scary piranhas
• feeding the Lake Baikal seals, and
• feeding the raccoons

Aside from the exciting sights and behaviors of the animals, you and your kids can also have experience in doing Sand Art for free.

Candle-making experience program is also available, but small fees apply for the cost of the candles.

Alright, if you are done enjoying the aquarium, shows, and presentations, maybe you can visit some exhibition halls in this same building.

Or, you can visit the exhibition halls if you are not interested to see and enjoy the marine animals and shows.

Marine Life Exhibition
The exhibition hall for marine creatures is located on the third floor of the exhibition areas.

The other exhibitions, Aqua Forest, Marine Life, and Ocean Life, are located on the second floor.

First Floor of Aqua Planet
On the first floor of Yeosu Aqua Planet includes the ticket box area, AR Trick Art Museum, 5D Experience, gift shop, food court, cafe, and eating area with views of the sea.

Admission Tickets: 29,500 KRW / Adult; 26,500 KRW / Teenagers & Senior Citizens
Admission+5D Theater: 34,000 KRW / Adult; 31,000 KRW / Teen & Senior; 28,000 KRW / Child

Available Facilities

All facilities necessary to make you feel comfortable and enjoy the place are available.

Washrooms are accessible inside the Hanhwa Aqua Planet on various floors (for free).

Wheelchairs and strollers are also available near the main entrance area.

You can park at the Expo Ocean Park parking area only. Visitors are not allowed to park near the building. As the parking fee is cheap, there's no need to worry about it.

Big Group Reservation
The place requires you to contact them in advance if you are bringing a big number of groups. But there's no need to reserve if you come alone or as a small gang.

How to Get to Hanhwa Aqua Planet

If you are coming from Seoul, you can take a bus or train or airplane.

By Train
Head for Yongsan Train Station and take the Yeosu Expo Station.  Cross the road and walk towards your direction, which is quite visible from a distance.

It takes around 10 minutes to reach Hanhwa Aqua Planet Yeosu.

By Bus
You can take an express bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Yeosu City. From Yeosu Intercity Bus Terminal, you can take a bus that will take around 15 minutes or less.

Alternately, you can take Bus Number 111 from that terminal and get off at Yeosu High School Bus Stop.

From Gwangju City
If you are already at Gwangju City, head to U-Square (bus terminal) and take an express bus for Yeosu. Then at Yeosu Intercity Bus Terminal, take Bus 111 just like the above information.

If you decide to take an airplane, you need to arrive in Gwangju City and then take a bus which can bring you to Yeosu in an hour and a half.
