It was once an upscale restaurant called Daewongak, which was generously donated to Venerable Bupjeong, a Buddhist monk, who transformed it into a temple in 1997. This fusion of temple and restaurant features makes it an unusual place to visit.

Hall of Ultimate Bliss

This fusion of a restaurant-turned-temple makes Gilsangsa quite distinctive and a popular tourist attraction. Visitors often marvel at how the beauty of the temple's architecture and the serenity of the surrounding natural landscape perfectly complement each other.

Getting to Gilsangsa Temple in Seoul

To easily reach Gilsangsa temple, follow these directions, which I found very helpful during my first trip to the area. I took the shuttle bus and enjoyed the quick ride while mingling with some locals who were also headed in the same direction.

First, take Subway Line 4 to Hansung University Station (Exit 6). From there, it's a pleasant 20-minute uphill walk to the temple.

Alternatively, you can catch a shuttle bus that departs from Dongwon Mart, located near the station. You can choose from bus options 1111 or 2112, and then take a short walk from the second stop.
