The cherry blossoms in Yeosu, South Korea, are a sight. Typically, from late March to mid-April, these iconic and cotton candy-like blossoms can be found in various regions in Korea.

While festivals are held in bustling cities like Seoul and Jinhae, exploring less populated areas can lead to picturesque cherry blossom views.

One such area is the road towards Jungang Girls' High School, located southeast of Yeosu. The cherry blossom trees in this area are a delightful sight and are popular among locals for their beauty.

You can take a stroll or a bike ride along this road to enjoy the stunning views.

Another great spot to see cherry blossoms in Yeosu is Dolsan Park. This park is located on a small island off the coast of Yeosu and is known for its beautiful cherry blossoms.

You and the gang can enjoy a picnic under the trees or take a scenic walk around the park to admire the flowers.

Sports Complex

Lastly, behind the Sports Complex near the bus terminal is another area where cherry blossoms can be found. This less-crowd area makes it a great spot to enjoy the blossoms in peace.

Yeosu, a picturesque coastal city in South Korea, hosts various vibrant festivals throughout the year. Let's explore some of them...

Jinnam Geobukseon Festival

The Geobukseon Festival is an annual celebration that honors the memory of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a revered naval commander who played a crucial role during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592.

The festival is held in Yeosu, the Navy Headquarters of Three Provinces (Jeolla Jwasuyeong) during that historical period, usually in early May.

The festival includes many vital elements, such as the Tongjeyeong Street Plays, street performances depicting Admiral Yi Sun-sin's life, the Chosun navy's formation, and acts of patriotism.

Another activity is the Yeongdangpungeo Festival, which involves a pilgrimage to the marine historic sites related to the Battle of Imlan and prayers for fishing boat luck.

Moreover, there's the Pungeogut, a taste festival showcasing Yeosu's unique eateries, and an archery competition where skilled archers compete, reminiscent of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's prowess.

The festival also includes Sodong Thread Play Recreation, a tradition passed down for over 420 years in the Jeolla Jwasuyeong region, and much more!

Hyangiram Sunrise Festival

Held at the historic Hyangiram Hermitage, the Sunrise Festival is an overnight event on New Year's Eve where visitors gather to witness the first sunrise of the year surrounded by natural beauty.

Big-O Show

Although not a traditional festival, the Big-O is a multimedia installation in Yeosu. It combines technology with showmanship, set against a 41-meter-high permanent structure towering over the Expo Site.

Other Notable Festivals:

  • Yeojaman Bay Twilight Festival
  • Yeongchwisan Mt. Azalea Festival
  • Dongdong Drum Festival
  • Silver Ocean of Geomundo/Baekdo Island

If you are interested in history and culture or enjoy the scenic beauty, Yeosu's festivals offer something for you or any of your friends and family members! 🎉🌅🎶

How to get to Yeosu City from Seoul

I had my first trip to Yeosu by express bus, so I have no experiences, yet, going there via other public transports. However, here I suggest several ways to travel from Seoul to Yeosu...

By Train (Recommended):

The KTX train from Yongsan Station to Yeocheon Station takes approximately 3 hours and 32 minutes. Tickets cost between â‚©21,343 and â‚©61,821. Alternatively, you can take the Korail Mugunghwa train, which also services this route.

By Bus via Gwangju:

If you plan to travel from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal to Yeosu, you can take a bus from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal to Gwangju first. Then, you can transfer to another bus from Gwangju to Yeosu. The total travel time for this route is approximately 4 hours and 47 minutes, and the fare ranges from â‚©33,500 to â‚©50,300. I hope this helps!

By Car:

If you prefer driving, the distance between Seoul and Yeosu is approximately 348.2 kilometers. The drive takes around 3 hours and 40 minutes, and you can enjoy scenic views—estimated cost: ₩65,000 to ₩100,000.

By Flight:

You have a few options if you want to travel from Seoul Gimpo Airport (GMP) to Yosu Airport (RSU). The quickest way is to take a direct flight, which takes approximately 2 hours and 38 minutes.

Alternatively, you can fly to Jinju (HIN) and then taxi to Yeosu. This option takes longer, around 3 hours and 22 minutes in total.

Another option is to fly to Gwangju (KWJ) and then take a bus to Yeocheon. This option takes the longest time, around 5 hours in total.

I hope that helps!

Remember to choose the option that best suits your preferences and schedule. Safe travels! 🚆🚌🚗🛫
